چکیده
From 2015 to 2021, we optimized mass cultivation of diatoms in our own developed vertical column airlift photobioreactors using natural and artificial light (LEDs). The project took place at the ferrosilicon producer Finnfjord AS North Norway as a joint venture with UiT—The Arctic University Norway. Small (0.1–6–14 m3) reactors were used for initial experiments produce inoculum cultures while upscaling 300 m3 reactor. We here argue that species cultivated should be large since biovolume specific self-shadowing can lower vs. small cells. highest production, 1.28 cm3 L?1 (0.09–0.31 g DW day?1), was obtained continuous culture ca. 19% utilization efficiency 34% CO2 uptake. 4–6 months without microbial contamination or biofouling, this due antifouling (anti-biofilm) agent algae. In terms protein quality all essential amino acids present, composition digestibility fatty required feed ingredients. Lipid content 20% ash-free high EPA levels, omega-3 acid increased when factory fume added. heavy metals algae well within accepted safety limits. Organic pollutants (e.g., dioxins PCBs) below limits by European Union food regulations, bioprospecting revealed several promising findings.

Hollow fibre membrane arrays for CO2 delivery in microalgae photobioreactors
Microalgae can serve as a carbon sink for CO2 sequestration and as a feedstock for liquid biofuel production. Methods for microalgal biomass and biofuel cultivation are progressing, but are still limited in the efficiency of light delivery and gas exchange within cultures. Specifically, current gas exchange methods are very energy intensive since they rely on mixing algal cultures at high flow ...

The present study investigated the feasibility of bioCO(2) sequestration using Chlorella sorokiniana. It was found that 5% CO(2) (v/v) in air was the most suitable concentration for the growth of this organism. At this concentration, the maximum rate of CO(2) sequestered and the biomass obtained were found to be 1.21 g L(-1)d(-1) and 4.4 g L(-1) respectively. Modeling and simulation of the grow...
متن کاملOverview of the potential of microalgae for CO2 sequestration
An economic and environmentally friendly approach of overcoming the problem of fossil CO2 emissions would be to reuse it through fixation into biomass. Carbon dioxide (CO2), which is the basis for the formation of complex sugars by green plants and microalgae through photosynthesis, has been shown to significantly increase the growth rates of certain microalgal species. Microalgae possess a gre...
متن کاملSelection of optimal microalgae species for CO2 sequestration
CO2 fixation by photoautotrophic algal cultures has the potential to diminish the release of CO2 into the atmosphere, helping alleviate the trend toward global warming. To realize workable biological CO2 fixation systems, selection of optimal microalgae species is vital. The selection of optimal microalgae species depends on specific strategies employed for CO2 sequestration. In this paper, the...
